Chiropractic Massage Relieves the Pain That Causes Irritable Baby Syndrome

June 8, 2017

Babies with colic or irritable baby syndrome can cry excessively for weeks at a time.

The toughest part of having an irritable or a colicky baby is not knowing where the problem lies and not knowing how you can soothe them. Fortunately, chiropractic massage has been found to help ease the pain underlying these conditions. Babies receiving chiropractic care are more comfortable and heal faster; chiropractors are not just for adults.

Not all parents are aware that chiropractic massage and care can play a vital role in the health of children of all ages. When a child is suffering because of a misalignment in the vertebrae, it causes digestive distress and cramping, and the only practical resolution is to have a chiropractor address the situation and rectify it.  When the vertebrae are misaligned, it takes a chiropractor to realign them correctly to ease the infant’s discomfort.

What Causes A Baby to Need A Chiropractic Massage?

When a baby is colicky or has irritable baby syndrome, the infant’s pain and discomfort usually originates from digestive tract distress, stomach discomfort and cramping. These can all be caused by the misalignment of the vertebrae. When an infant is born, the vertebrae can become misaligned due to the different ways the baby’s body has to contort to come out of the birth canal. About seventy to ninety pounds of force is applied to the babies spine during birth. As a result, the spine can become compacted from the amount of pressure exerted. After birth, the baby’s regular activities can cause stress on their tiny bodies. Chiropractic massage helps to remove that stress, which allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to kick in and heal the baby’s body.

What is the Purpose of Chiropractic Massage and Care?

The purpose of chiropractic therapy is to reduce the nervous system stress that many children and adults have. Nervous system stress can interfere with the proper functioning of the nervous system, causing internal organs and organ systems to weaken. This lowers the body’s resistance to illness and reduces the body’s ability to heal itself. Chiropractic massage applies a gentle amount of pressure over specific areas. When this pressure is applied to the correct spots on the baby’s body, it assists in realigning the vertebrae of the spine to relieve pain and discomfort. Once the vertebrae are realigned, the digestive tract is no longer in distress, and this relieves that pain and cramping that comes with it. Not only does chiropractic massage help with digestive problems, it is also known to relieve stress, prevent colds, boost immune systems and reduce the chances of getting ear infections. Talk to your doctor about how a chiropractor may be able to help your child.
